Fasting Meditation Retreat Q&A

FGH recently received these  questions about the Cealo Fasting Meditation retreat.  In anticipation that others may also have similar questions, we thought we would share this volunteer’s response.  However, please keep in mind that everyone’s experience is uniquely one’s own experience.

  1. I've never fasted before. Do I need to do something ahead of time? Will I feel unwell?

  2. The therapies look fabulous. Is there time during the weekend to do all of them or is the weekend already planned out?

  3. What's happening the weekend before the retreat?

  4. Who do I contact for more information on the Chicago events?

I've never fasted before. Do I need to do something ahead of time? Will I feel unwell??

Thank you for the questions.

I thought I'd share with you my experience at the last fasting retreat with Cealo, approximately four years ago in Chicago. It too was a Friday through Sunday retreat. I had not fasted before. So, there was some hesitation on my part about the weekend. However, I viewed it as an interesting journey with a Master teacher and one of my always heart-centered role models. My physical health was (and thankfully still is) good. So, I knew that a weekend of tea drinking would be okay. (If you have physical conditions or medications that require you to eat, then I am sure Cealo would concur, you've got to eat then.) To ease the way, I had an early dinner on Thursday night and stopped eating at about 6:30 pm. (We broke the fast on Sunday early afternoon.)

For me the retreat was a wonderful learning experience about the body. I watched the ebb and flow of "feeling hungry." Funny enough, by Sunday, those feelings had really subsided. I felt like I could go on fasting for several more days. Going through this with other people was also a great experience and good support. Cealo encouraged us to just watch, laugh and move on.

It really put a different perspective on food and the body for me. The presence of "the observer" was so clear.

Cealo had a couple meditations a day. So, there was plenty of free time to relax and consider "Who is your True Self?" which was the question Cealo posed to us the first day. I had never really pondered that idea. So, it was also a spirit journey into Self for me.

Cealo would take questions before the meditations.

I have not fasted since that time. I have signed up for this program. I have also been volunteering for the FGH for several years. One thing that I have learned, you can't judge the future based on the past. So, what Cealo has in store for this retreat, I can't say other than fasting and meditating. But, I am sure it will be a beautiful journey. He and Amica are just wonderful, heart-centered, loving, caring and "tuned in" beings and master meditators. I really view this as a rare opportunity and am honored to attend.
